To use FTP you must have software that supports it. The first place to check your Web browser. Both Netscape Navigator, and Microsoft Internet Explorer, support FTP.

However these browsers can only use FTP to download files from an FTP site. If you wish to upload files, you will need a separate FTP software package.

You can download a separate FTP software package from World Wide Web, or purchase one from your favorite computer store. You might also check with your Internet service provider (ISP), or online service.

FTP software, along with your Internet connection, is all that you need to begin "FTPing" across the Internet. Since most sites provide anonymous FTP you can immediately begin to use FTP.
